Missed Appointment Policy

Our goal is to provide quality, individualized mental healthcare in a timely manner. No-shows, late arrivals, and cancellations inconvenience others who need access to care. We want to inform you of our policy regarding missed appointments.

Cancellation of an Appointment

To respect other patients' medical needs, please be courteous and call Empathy Therapy’s appointment line at (888) 832-9635 promptly if you are unable to attend an appointment. This time will be reallocated to someone who needs treatment. If you need to cancel your scheduled appointment, please cancel your appointment online or call us at least 72 hours in advance. Appointments are in high demand, and your early cancellation will enable another patient to access timely medical care.

How to Cancel an Appointment

Please cancel or reschedule your appointment by either going through the “My Account” menu within our booking software or by calling (888) 832-9635 and leaving a detailed message on our voicemail. For canceled appointments, refunds processed by our billing system typically take up to seven business days to complete and post to customer debit/credit card accounts, minus a $20.00 cancellation charge.

To process a refund to your credit card, we require the last four digits of your credit card number.

Late Cancellations

A cancellation is considered late when the appointment is canceled without 72-hour advance notice. Voicemail messages at our practice are date and time-stamped for your convenience.

No-Show Policy

A “no-show” is a patient who misses an appointment without canceling it within defined time period above. A failure to be present at the time of a scheduled appointment will be recorded in the chart as a “no-show.”

Cancellation and No-Show Fees

A no-show or late cancellation will result in a full charge of $500 for new patient visits
A no-show or late cancellation will result in a full charge of $350 for return patient visits.
A no-show or late cancellation of the forensic initial consultation will result in a full charge of $4,000.
A no-show or late cancellation of concierge in-person appointments will result in a full charge of $5,050.

Travel Expenses for In-Person Appointments

Concierge and forensic in-person appointments may require Dr. Chofla to travel. Travel expenses, including airfare, lodging, ground transportation, and mileage, are billed separately at cost. Once travel has been booked for a scheduled appointment, any non-refundable portion of those expenses remains the responsibility of the booking party, regardless of when the appointment is canceled.
